Layout = “Chai Cupcakes”

The word…
The designers I know and/or have had the pleasure of working with humble me with their skills. It’s one of the reasons I answer the “Are you a [graphic] designer” question with a “No.” That doesn’t mean I won’t play around on my own though. Does anyone ever see it? Nope. But in this instance I felt like letting my guard down. Enjoy.

The photo…
Shot with a Nikon D70 and a fixed-focus 50mm lens. The wash-out in the background is a result of having a south-facing, sliding glass door with noon sun. ISO was 200, 1/50 sec @ f1.8 in .nef format.

The layout…
All Photoshop CS4 -but nothing you can’t do in Photoshop 7.0. The font is Chalet by House Industries. Specifically the “London 1980” flavor. To access the proper 1/2, 1/4, and 3/4 fractions, as opposed to typing ’em out, I used the “Special Characters” within the “Edit” menu of OS X’s “Font Book.” Select a unique character and you can ask “Font Book” to “Show Character Selected in Application” via the “Settings” contextual menu..and blam.

The recipe…
Per cupcake = 305 cal, 12 g fat, 33 mg chol, 184 mg sodium, 48 g carbo, 0 g fiber, 2 g pro. -And be sure to blend the ingredients for the actual 2-minutes. Doing so will cause it to be airy. Ideally the mixture should flow like a ribbon from the beaters.

The inspiration…
A song by Sarah Harmer titled “Dandelions in Bullet Holes” from her “All Of Our Names” release. Here.
