LASEK Lessons

Here’s a proof-of-concept for a LASEK Eye Surgery project. You know, the ol’ conversation starter art. One question this will answer is how much pencil vs. color should be visible in final art. Toeing the line could help the final art feel somewhat traditional as opposed to technical. “Technical” as in “cold.”

I discovered early that including an eyelid or surrounding tissue was a bad idea. It humanized the procedure and fueled the laser-meets-eye anxiety. Same for blood vessels in the Sclera (SKLEH-ruh) (a.k.a. “white area”) of the eye. A single blood vessel is intercepted as stress. But to be honest, I’d really love to turn this into a cross-section. Plenty of research, the right reference material, and…well, BLAM as I often say.
